Sarah Brooks is the summer Intern at the Jefferson Education Exchange (JEX) working collaboratively with leadership to execute special projects.
During the non-summer months, Sarah is a 2nd grade teacher in Washington DC. Sarah began her teaching career as part of the 2017 cohort of Urban Teachers, a nationally-recognized teacher certification and training program aimed at providing teachers the training and support needed for success in the first years of teaching in high-need schools. As a teacher, she has experienced first-hand the usage of educational technologies in the classroom and recognizes the importance of finding programs that are engaging and effective for students.
While participating in Urban Teachers, Sarah earned her Masters in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins and initial teaching credentials in both Elementary Education and Special Education.
Sarah graduated from Bates College in Maine where she was a History major, Education minor, and French concentration. While at Bates, Sarah completed over 100 hours of fieldwork in the Lewiston, ME public schools, assisting and observing students and teachers in the classroom and in one on one settings. She was also a member of the women’s rowing team throughout her four years.
